The 2022 Lake Mallalieu Lake Management Plan sets three prioritized goals for Lake Mallalieu:

1. Improve water quality
2. Improve aquatic habitat
3. Address sediment that has been deposited in the Lake

These goals will only be accomplished by improving watershed-wide water quality. 

A two-scaled approach is essential: 

• A watershed-wide approach to reduce nutrients entering the Willow River that then flow into the Lake Mallalieu impoundment; and 
• A lake-focused effort along the lakeshore to reduce shoreline erosion and runoff from shoreland yards.
